April: A Great Time to “Think Green”
With Earth Day and Arbor Day this month, we are reminded to “think green” at every turn. Give us a call and ask about our “Revival” collection of reclaimed wide-plank hardwood flooring that uses wood recycled from antique structures, and is constructed with water-based dyes and water-based finishes that produce no VOCs.
News Update:
Apex Design Partner Frank Ponterio Featured in The Merchandise Mart’s DreamHome 2011 -- The DreamHome is open now through December 9th
Earlier this month, The Merchandise Mart Design Center unveiled its 2011 DreamHome. This year’s DreamHome features a spectacular dining room created by interior designer Frank Ponterio, ASID, a trusted and valued design partner of Apex. Carefully curated and refined, the dining room Frank designed evokes easy American luxury within a European-style pied-à-terre. Bold scale, a rich palette and a variety of textures create a space of inviting sophistication.
The room dually functions as a center for entertaining or private dining. The setting serves as a perfect place for celebrations or gatherings with family or friends. If dinner plans call for a table for two, the room aptly accommodates. An opulent, intimate table with embroidered fabric is softly illuminated by a hand-blown pendant. A large format painting serves as the background. A grand antique limestone fireplace is set against a shimmering wallcovering and drapery fabric with tiebacks to complete the room’s warmth and polish.
Incorporating a sensibility of modern classic, Frank and his team bring together timeless design influences to contemporary lifestyles. Ultimately, the dining room constitutes a lavishly contemporary space that is met with a discerning appreciation for artistry, authenticity and personalized style.

In addition, Frank’s work and transformation in the 2011 Lake Forest Showhouse & Gardens this spring is simply amazing. He designed the library at Thorndale Manor. As a keen admirer of the architecture of Howard van Doren Shaw, Frank aimed to restore the library to its original grandeur. Calling on his expertise in historic preservation, Frank replaced the black hearth tiles from 1964 with black honed marble and gold inserts, respectfully adhering to Shaw’s original vision for the fireplace. Furthermore, Frank’s team worked ardently to restore the original millwork and impressive bookcases in the room.
The library ultimately balances elegance with ease. Rich, natural textiles such as mohair, cashmere and leather invite luxurious respites while the handsome Macassar ebony game table encourages family gatherings. Warmth permeates the space - the windows are dressed in rich paisley and the fireplace is crowned by striking artwork. The room also marks the début of the Spencer sofa from Frank’s eponymous furniture collection, named after his beloved terrier.
Proceeds from the Showhouse & Gardens benefit the Infant Welfare Society. It is open from April 30 through May 22, 2011. For more information, please visit http://lakeforestshowhouse.com/.
