Apex in the News
National Consumer Shelter Magazine Features Apex Wood Flooring
In the summer 2010 issue of Renovation Style magazine, local kitchen and bath designer Laura O’Brien of O’Brien Harris listed Apex Wood Floors’ French White Oak (“Artisan” European White Oak flooring) as one of her favorite choices for use in the timeless, elegant kitchens she creates for her clients. Laura told the editors that our European White Oak Flooring is “sustainable and absolutely exquisite.” We thank Laura and also encourage you to visit her new downtown Chicago showroom featuring our flooring at 500 N. Refinish Your Treasured Hardwood Floors with Apex’s Dust-free Method
No dust, mess, garbage or costly cleanup with the innovative method we use!
Are you a savvy homeowner who chose the beauty and warmth of hardwood floors for your interiors? If so, you already made a terrific investment in your home. If it’s been a few years since your hardwood flooring was installed – and if certain highly trafficked areas have suffered damage – it might be time to consider refinishing your flooring to preserve and enhance its value.
“Some of the tell-tale signs that your floor needs a little TLC include being able to see major scratches, dents and raw wood at the surface, or when the finish is completely worn-through,” said Kevin Mohring, production manager at Apex Wood Floors. “In addition, when homeowners consider a remodeling project on any scale or have recently purchased a home, they decide it’s time to change the stain / color of their floors to better complement their new furnishings, accents and paint choices.”
Mohring has been working with homeowners and design trade professionals alike for 13 years. He’s helped countless clients transition their existing hardwood floors from drab and damaged to fresh and fabulous.
“Refinishing hardwood floors has such a dramatic impact. It’s so rewarding when clients experience these outstanding results. When they realize their existing floor can take on a new appearance without being torn up, it’s an affordable win-win decision,” he said.
More good news: gone are the days when face masks were necessary! Apex uses a completely dust-free method known as the “Dust-Extraction System” (DES). Dust-free sanding extracts the dust outside of your home before it can become airborne. Apex does this by using a powerful vacuum connected to our sanding equipment that collects the sanding dust directly into our vacuum trailer. This leaves you with a beautiful floor and a clean home, and removes the possibility of airborne dust that would settle back down into the finish.
The benefits are extraordinary, according to Mohring. Apex has been using the Atomic Dust Containment System from BonaKemi for all of its refinishing and recoating projects for 8 years. In fact, it was the very first Illinois-based company to purchase the equipment and use it to their clients’ and employees’ tremendous advantage.
It’s Healthier, Faster and Green
The Dust-Extraction System Apex uses keeps dust out of the client’s home, in addition to saving time and materials. The DES is GREENGUARD-certified for indoor air quality, which means it’s extremely safe, efficient and good for the environment.
“There’s no need to spend time prepping a job or protecting the home with plastic, and obviously this method is eco-friendly since there’s no plastic to discard afterwards. Homeowners love it because they don’t have to clean their home from top to bottom once the project is completed, and there’s no chance of sanding dust getting caught in their home’s air ducts,” added Mohring.
“People don’t believe that you don’t have to hang plastic anymore. They’re so pleased – and in disbelief – at the end of a job because their home is as sparkling clean as the minute we arrived.”
The whole refinishing process is quick. Typically, it takes anywhere from 3-5 hours on the first day (sanding and edging to remove the current finish), followed by one day for staining and then applying the new finish over the next two consecutive days.
Apex also offers a dustless recoating process for floors that are looking dull or have surface scratches. This one-day service will revive the beauty and luster of your original floors by abrading the surface layer of the floor and applying a new topcoat of finish.
“At Apex, we believe that a home’s foundation is its flooring because it sets the tone for the rest of the interior space,” Mohring said. It’s often one of the first things people notice. We stress the importance of good floor care for the specific hardwood and finish in each client’s home; it reflects our high standards and those of our clients’, too.”
